Unfortunately, Newt is given far more respect on the right than he deserves. According to US News, he just converted to Catholicism this past weekend. Yet he's already presuming to speak about "Catholic values."

ReplyDeleteJust because someone is a new convert doesn't mean they haven't been associated with or attracted to those values for many years.
I susoect that is the rule, not the exception.
Ask anyone that has converted, I suggest you will find that to be true.

ReplyDeletePeople convert for all sorts of reasons. They are dissatisfied with their current denomination or church for whatever reason. They have changed views on a point of doctrine, They had some sort of personal conversion experience. They were convinced by persuasive arguments, etc.

Maybe, but maybe not.

I disagree. Many people don't even understand all the values and doctrines of their own religion after years of believing it.
