Republican remembers we have a Constitution

Michele "McCarthy" Bachmann unleashed:

Blue Texan summarizes:
BACHMANN: What provision in the Constitution could you point to to give authority for the actions that have been taken by the Treasury since March of '08?

GEITHNER: Oh, well the Congress legislated, in the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act, a range of very important new authorities...

BACHMANN: Sir, in the Constitution? What in the Constitution could you point to to give authority to the Treasury extraordinary actions that they take?

GEITHNER: Every action that the Treasury and the Fed and the FDIC is, is been using authority granted by this body. By this body the Congress.

BACHMANN: BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CONSTITUTION MOTHERFUCKER!?!?! THE CONSTITUTION!!!1!!?!
Though some of us may not like the Fed and think (pseudo)-government action tends to prologue crises (see Ron Paul's question) I suspect it's pretty clear in settled case law and to the vast majority of constitutional scholars that Congress has the power to tax and regulate interstate commerce and delegate portions of such things by law to the administration of the Fed, Treasury, FDIC, Fannie & Freddie, etc.

Republicans need to spend less time on the ludicrous suggestion that anything in Geithner's plan is unconstitutional and more time putting back together the pieces Bush shredded so they can be a credible party again.

That will take years to get started, however. For now what else are we to expect from a party that wants a lunatic like Michele Bachmann in leadership?
